Heat pump gamble didn’t pay off

I’m so not the gambling type.

My wife wanted to go to Vegas so bad because her friends had raved about it.

I had zero interest because I just simply don’t gamble. However, I went with her and I have to say that I did have fun. That trip came with a ton of people watching and the very best HVAC cooling I’ve ever experienced. So it was worth the trip. And I even sat with my wife a bit to watch her gamble. Still, I didn’t see what the appeal was and I held on to my money. My wife lost the entire amount we set out for gambling. Again, I just don’t see the appeal in gambling. So the fact that I rolled the dice on a 25 years old heat pump is beyond surprising. Talk about one of the worst bets a person could make! But I had myself completely convinced that I could get one more summer out of the old HVAC equipment. The HVAC technician came out in early spring to do the air conditioning tune up just like he does every year. But this time, he told me the heat pump wasn’t far from being done. That was not great because I just hadn’t saved up for this eventuality. Getting one more summer from the heat pump would solve that. I eased up big time on the thermostat and really sealed up the house tight while pulling the shades every day to stop any direct sunlight heating. Got through June and July. And I almost made it through August. But I’m now waiting for new residential HVAC and sweating it out in a house with zero HVAC cooling.
