Getting my winter prep on early while the air conditioning is still going

It’s the last week in August.

The kids start school next week which is the cue I decided was time for me to get real about winter prep.

This was the date when I promised myself that I would commit to getting real about saving on HVAC heating costs. For the seven years that we’ve lived in this house, winter prep hasn’t happened. The closest I get to winter preparations is to call the HVAC company. At least I’ve always had the gas furnace taken care of. Each fall, I have at least managed to get the HVAC heating maintenance done. But that was the extent of my efforts when it came to preparing the house for the winter. However, I always thought I would get to it in the fall. And each fall, I would sit my butt in the recliner to spend all weekend watching football. It would seem that I could get off my butt for a few hours in order to save on the high cost of HVAC heating. So far, that has not been the case at all. I have found every reason not to do what I needed to do in order to save on HVAC heating costs in our rough winter. So this year, I’m getting after it while the air conditioning is still running. I’ve gone to the HVAC company website and downloaded the winter prep checklist. Tomorrow, I’m heading to the home improvement store to pick up stuff like caulk and weather stripping. I’m actually going to get all this winter prep done before the football season gets in full swing and I’m planted in my recliner.
