I haven’t used a window air conditioner since the 1990s

Somedays I wish I could go back to the 1990s before half of the country had lost their godforsaken minds

Throughout the 1990s, I was living in the northern midwest. I had an apartment that overlooked a large lake and the view was absolutely gorgeous from four stories up. It was an old building with musty smelling carpets, but it had everything I needed at the time. I worked for a software company at the time and used my spare bedroom as a large home office. I had a television in there and played video games whenever I wasn’t on the computer. It’s amazing to see how much video games have changed in 30 years, especially computer games. Sometimes I miss my simpler life back then. This was before the days of a violent insurrection on the nation’s capitol amid a delusional and psychotic conspiracy theory poisoning the minds of tens of millions of otherwise normal people. I just can’t escape how simpler life felt back then, before I had a cell phone on me at all times and couldn’t be reached at any minute of the day by anyone in my life. I could relax in my apartment and enjoy life to the fullest. I didn’t need a fancy central heating and cooling system either. It wasn’t the tiniest apartment, but it wasn’t huge either. I had a single window air conditioner that managed to keep me comfortable during the warm summer season. Somedays I wish I could go back to the 1990s before half of the country had lost their godforsaken minds. Before the internet was weaponized as a tool for mass disinformation and public shaming. If I could go back to the days before social media existed, I would trade every technological advance that I appreciate about life these days just to taste the past one more time.
