They’re the ones who got us into the HVAC industry

Retirement has been the best thing ever for my nan and pap, and I’m not mad about it.

In fact, I think I am a little jealous.

Nan and pap usually start off the day by resting outside in their bathrobe and smoking some joints. They do not care who sees them. Nan and pap just read the paper, drink a few cups of coffee, and smoke reefer for 2 to 3 hours. I can’t join him, except when I’m off work, because it’s not okay to be high when doing repairs. Nan and pap laugh at me when I leave for work. “Enjoy the grind” they say to me every day. Same as nan and pap, I am a HVAC specialist. I followed in their footsteps and got my Heating and Air Conditioning certification soon after graduating from high school. Aside from teasing me sometimes, nan and pap have been my biggest supporters. They are the ones who got me the Heating and Air Conditioning tech position I currently hold. Our roles have been reversed, because for years I was the one who smoked weed while nan and pa suited up and went to work at the Heating and Air Conditioning business. When I get home, nan and pap always want to know what kind of heating and cooling job I had that day. After working full time as HVAC specialists for almost 35 years, it is still a major part of their lives. There have even been incidents when I got stumped by a tricky air conditioner repair, so I contacted nan and pap at the cabin to ask for his advice. You could say that HVAC is our family business.
