Heating and AC is our family business

After retiring, dad seems to have gone off the deep end.

I can’t feel bad about it, if anything I’m quite jealous.

Dad usually starts off the day by sitting on the front porch in his bathrobe and smoking his marijuana. He doesn’t care who sees him. Dad just reads the paper, takes his coffee, and smokes reefer all morning. I can’t join him, except on my days off, because I have to work. Dad laughs at me when I leave for work. “Enjoy the rat race” he says to me every day. Just like dad, I am a HVAC worker. I followed in his footsteps and got my Heating & A/C certification soon after graduating from high school. Aside from teasing me sometimes, dad has been my biggest supporter. He is the one who got me the Heating and A/C tech position I now hold. Our roles have been reversed, because for years I was the one who smoked weed while dad suited up and went to work at the Heating & A/C corporation. After I’m done working for the day, dad asks what kind of HVAC work I had that day. After working full time as an Heating & A/C worker for decades, it’s still a major part of him. There have even been a couple of times when I got stumped by a difficult air conditioner repair, so I called dad at new home to ask for his advice. You could say that Heating and A/C is our family business.
