It all depended on the size of the house.

He said it wasn’t about how much energy the HVAC system used, but how much it expended

I was sure I knew what size HVAC system I needed for my house. I had done some measurements and compared them to the FAQ’s on the HVAC company website. I measured each room, and knew how many thermostats I would need for the Zone Control, and where the zones should be. When the HVAC technician arrived, he told me I needed a different size HVAC system. I told him I thought it depended on the size of the house. He explained the size of the house was one of the measurements. They needed to figure how much ductwork there was, and if I wanted to heat the basement, attic, or garage. They needed to know how many people were in the house, and if it was a low or high traffic house. I wanted to ask why they didn’t put all that information on the FAQ page, but I didn’t want to sound stupid. When he said that he needed to know what kind of efficiency I was looking for, I had no idea what he meant. He talked to me about efficiency ratings, and what the words efficiency rating meant. He said it wasn’t about how much energy the HVAC system used, but how much it expended. If I wanted something that worked efficiently and had high efficiency in heating, AC, and energy, it would be a bit more expensive, and I would need a more accurate measurement. I told him I wanted to afford the fuel, and get as much heat and AC out of the HVAC system as I could.
