I thought they were in the backyard.

My HVAC technician was supposed to be at the house by 9 AM, which gave me plenty of time to take care of my dogs and get them out of the house.

I thought that if I tied them in the backyard, it would be better than having three Pit Bulls come running through the house when the HVAC technician arrived.

I was as much concerned with my bullies as I was by the two Chihuahuas. My husband found out, long ago, why they were called ankle biters. I had my dogs when I met him, and the first taste of being a dog owner was when ChiChi sat watching him. He turned around long enough to say hello to me when ChiChi latched onto his heel tendon, and wouldn’t let go. I spent most of our first date sitting in the hospital with him. I learned I had to keep the dogs out of the way of anyone who came to my house, and that was most important when the HVAC technician arrived. I heard the service van pull up in the driveway, and made sure the dogs were in their pens. I didn’t expect ChiChi to find a way out of her pen, but somehow she did. The HVAC technician wasn’t even out of the service van when ChiChi was on him. She was jumping at him and yipping. I couldn’t tell she was getting anxious, and I tried to get to her before she bit him. The HVAC technician reached down and scooped ChiChi up. He got right in her face and told her to calm down. I never saw ChiChi subdued so quickly.
