After retiring, our Grandma has truly gone off the deep end.
We’re not mad about it.
If anything, we are a little jealous. Grandma usually starts off the day by resting on the front porch in her bathrobe and smoking a big fat joint. She does not care who sees her. She just reads the paper, drinks several cups of coffee, and smokes reefer for an hour or so. We can’t join her, except on our days off, because we have to work. Grandma constantly laughs at us when we leave for work “Enjoy the rodent race” she says to us every day. Just like Grandma, we are heating and cooling service techs. We followed in her footsteps and got our Heating and Air Conditioning certification soon after graduating from private school. Aside from teasing us occasionally, Grandma has constantly been our largest supporter. She is the one who got us the Heating and Air Conditioning tech positions we currently hold. Our roles have been reversed, because for years we were the ones who smoked weed while Grandma suited up and went to work at the Heating & Air Conditioning company. After we are done laboring for the day Grandma always asks what kind of heating and cooling work we had that day. After working full time as an Heating & Air Conditioning tech for several decades, it is still a major part of her life. There have even been moments when we got stumped by a tricky air conditioning repair, so we called her at the beach house to ask for her advice. You could say that Heating & Air Conditioning is our family business.
