Honestly, there was so much change when we moved north that it was a bit overwhelming.
My entire family was not at all prepared for what a real winter was going to be like.
We knew nothing about how serious a northern winter really is. We had all experienced that sort of winter where the heat pump came on now and again to knock the chill out of the house and that’s it. This was the extent of our harsh winter. Once I took the job up here where we were introduced to our first gas furnace, it was a real eye opener. The house we bought came with brand new HVAC equipment which was great. I didn’t know anything when it came to HVAC heating. So having that new HVAC equipment was a big deal. Still, we noted that there was a room in our house that just didn’t seem to warm up like the rest of our house. Didn’t matter where the thermostat was set, that one room was simply much cooler during the winter. Eventually, I had a HVAC professional come out to check the HVAC equipment. He did a thorough inspection that proved the HVAC equipment was indeed in great shape. But he suggested I put in a room to room ventilator fan. These fans now equalize the temperature for that room. It was a fairly easy to fix but for a winter rookie like me, I really needed the guidance of my HVAC professional. We are in our fifth year up here and I think all of us are getting better with the realities of winter. Still, I’m mighty thankful for that great residential HVAC heating all winter long.
