Hard to ponder life without HVAC cooling

It’s almost like I have a permanent smile on my face these days.

But that’s what happens when all the heat and humidity is over.

It’s October and that means much less HVAC cooling and more smiles. Here, summer generally hangs on all the way through September. That means there is plenty of air conditioning pumping when the rest of the country is already well into fall weather. October is a time where the temperature still requires some HVAC cooling but certainly not the same level that’s required in the summer. I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to live here without air conditioning in the summer. But of course, it wasn’t all that long ago that my ancestors lived here without modern residential HVAC. Of course, we now consider a residential HVAC to be a life essential. However our residential HVAC really hasn’t been around but since the 50s. The advent of HVAC cooling certainly changed the population centers and numbers in this region. I still wonder though just what it would have been like to get through a summer like ours without help from a heat pump. For sure, I would have had to find a shady spot and not move at all and hope for a really good breeze. Thankfully, that isn’t something I have to deal with thanks to the HVAC technology we have in our home. Well, I love that it’s October and the weather is spectacular, but I’m still very grateful for HVAC technology. Without that wonderful HVAC cooling we get all summer, it would make life pretty miserable for those four months of the year.
