Over the years, I thought I was doing alright with my own heater maintenance. I would open up the furnace and clean everything out as best as I could. Of course I would always have the power shut off to the heating equipment whenever I was working on it. Then one winter day, the heater quit working and I was unable to figure out what the issue was. I finally chose to call an HVAC professional and he came over to my house within the hour which was surprising to me. I was happy he was there though and he took a look at everything. He complimented me on the heating system because it was so clean inside, but he said there was a part that had to be replaced because it was completely worn. Once he had the part replaced, he then told me I also had an issue with my thermostat. He said he would upgrade me to a smart thermostat with a 25% discount if I was interested. With such a discount on a smart thermostat, I couldn’t say no, so he installed that for me. When that was done, he showed me how well the heating system was working. He told me that I probably wouldn’t have any more significant issues so long as I called for regular heating system maintenance each year. He explained that the professionals know what they’re doing with this kind of work and can spot any serious issues that a non-professional couldn’t spot. Basically, he was telling me that he knew a non-professional had been working on the system for so long, I guess it was obvious to a professional like him. Moving forward, I’ll be calling for regular maintenance, I don’t want any issues.
