A/C in the Horse Stall

Horses are amazing animals, and no ranch or farm would be complete without a good horse.

  • There are horses used for all different kinds of things on a farm, but sometimes horses are too fragile.

One thing about horses is that they fare better in cooler weather. Since I live in the south and I purchased a horse who lived farther north, I always worry a little about my horse during these hot summer months. I don’t want my horse to get heat exhaustion! Because of that, I have decided to add a cooling device to the horse stall. The barn already has a fan, but I am afraid that just won’t be good enough come July and August. I think I am going to get a portable a/c unit and install it in the barn. One option is an evaporative cooling machine. An Evaporative cooling device works kind of like a whole-house air conditioner. The cooling machine pulls in hot air, and the hot air is pushed over wet pads and cooled before being recirculated. I have electricity in the barn, and that’s all I need for the portable a/c unit. I also think that the humidity levels will be better regulated, and that dehumidifier will help the horse regulate its own internal thermostat so he doesn’t get overheated. Some people may think it’s extravagant to have an air conditioner in the horse stall, but my horse is part of my family, and I count on him to help me on the farm. I have to take good care of his health!
