HVAC technicians: jobs of the future

Scientists agree that the planet is warming and, now, the signs of this warming are clear for average people to see.

Rising sea levels caused by melting glaciers have caused major flooding in low lying areas, some of them highly populated and developed–like Miami. Farmers in the breadbasket complain of both drought and flooding and ski resorts have had to manufacture their own snow since the snow pack has been thin the last few years. But perhaps the most obvious signs of warming are in extreme temperatures. In the last twenty years, records for both heat and cold have been broken over and over. Extreme temperatures are being felt everywhere. Because of this, economists and others are predicting that jobs in the HVAC business are going to be in high demand. Heating and cooling technology has also become more sophisticated as engineers and scientists work to adapt to environmental shifts. While improved HVAC technology will allow consumers to better heat and cool their homes and businesses, it will also mean that HVAC services are becoming increasingly technical. The average repairman may no longer be able to fix or service new HVAC systems. Rather, these systems will require the experience and expertise of certified HVAC technicians. It is therefore expected that in the next ten years, HVAC businesses will be looking to hire and train twice the number of HVAC technicians they have now. It is also expected that this new generation of HVAC technicians will command higher pay as the demand for their services rises. New HVAC systems training programs are being developed in high schools, vocational schools and community colleges to prepare for this rising demand. Young people looking for a third option between work and university are taking up the call for training in heating and cooling services. Jobs in heating and cooling are going increase dramatically in the future.
