Change has ended up being necessary in my life but it hasn’t always been my friend.
I think the more attached I become to routine and security, the more change happens whether I like it or not.
When I was young I often saw change as threatening and based on fair or unfair. Now, I just do my level best to roll with the punches and just keep on moving. But, there is not doubt that when my little ideas of structure are upset then so am I. My career is a great example. I hit my mid fifties thinking I had ten years or so left before I could hang it up and drink fruity drinks all day. That is still such a lovely image though isn’t it? It didn’t work out that way. One minute I’m in my lovely HVAC controlled office and the next I’m out on my butt. That sort of change can sure be a whirlwind experience. Suddenly, you’re at home with no where to go and no discernable revenue source. So, you get creative. I commandeered a guest room in our home and got about making it into my office. Then, I called the HVAC folks to come out and make my new office HVAC independent from the rest of my home. I like my office really cool. There is something about a really cool office that makes me so much more focused on the task at hand. So, now I sit in my excellent new home office with a view of the driveway and I attempt to reinvent a career. Change happens so be comfortable and roll with it.
