My husband is an HVAC technician and usually I don’t mind the schedule that he keeps. However, there’s one thing that I hate about his job and that’s the fact that he always seems to have to work on holidays. I understand the fact that people have lots more furnace and air conditioning troubles over the holidays. It only makes sense that they would because they are home more and so they are using their heating and cooling systems more. Therefore, there’s definitely more of a chance of overloading the furnace or freezing up the air conditioning system over a holiday weekend or on Thanksgiving week. It makes total sense to me. I mean, it’s the same reason that people have problems with their plumbing over the holidays. There are just more people in the house and more people means more bathroom issues! It’s the same thing with the HVAC system. But just because I understand the reasoning behind the HVAC problems doesn’t mean that I like the fact that my husband has to work nearly every holiday. That is still annoying to me and our kids because we are always having to wait for him to get home from work before we can start on our holiday celebrations. I guess one good thing about it is the fact that we personally never have issues with our HVAC system during the holidays! He keeps it running well all year long and our indoor air quality is always fantastic. I’m hoping that one of these days soon, he will get switched to a set schedule without having to work holidays.
