For years they filmed a PBS cooking show in our area, and my whole family and I were always big fans.
- They filmed it locally, went to local eateries, used local ingredients, and that local connection always made it really special to us.
The host of that show was named Jenny, and last month she moved in next door to my parents. They were besides themselves with excitement, and wanted to bring her some cookies but were afraid they wouldn’t be good enough! They mentioned to her that their son (me) was an A/C repair technician, and she said she would love to talk to me. She was very nice, and explained that her new home had a substandard ventilation system, and she needed new ductwork and exhaust vents in the kitchen. From all her years working in the cooking industry, she had a keen knowledge of how important ventilation was to a kitchen, especially one this big. I offered to do all the ventilation work for her, for a very good price, if she would offer to give my folks some cooking lessons. She was a real nice lady, and the week I spent there doing her HVAC upgrades I got to know her pretty well. She was a bit of a cougar, but also very strict and demanding, and would stand behind my while I installed air vents to check my work. When it was all said and done she paid me very well for all the ventilation work, and then was very kind with my parents.
