My highschool janitor was great with HVAC units.
Our highschool was always having problems with its heating and cooling units.
I remember one hot summer day, when We were in the middle of the third period, and the central air conditioning unit stopped working. The teacher was up there sweating, along with all of us students. Later that day, the other central air conditioning unit stopped working a well, making the entire school without air conditioning. The school hired some HVAC technicians to come and fix the central air conditioners, but the HVAC technicians wouldn’t be able to come for two days. Our janitor, Mr. Smith, decided to take matters into his own hands and try to fix the central air conditioners himself. He took the central air conditioners apart and started fixing what he could. Although Mr. Smith is not an HVAC technician or an HVAC mechanic, he is very good at fixing simple things in air conditioners and furnaces. Mr. Smith worked for several hours on those central air conditioners, when he finally finished fixing them. He walked inside and did a test run, and to his delight, both the central air conditioners worked! The next day at school, talk was going around about Mr. Smith and how he had fixed the air conditioners. Our school decided to thank him by having a big party for him and dubbing him the school’s fines HVAC technician, even though technically he really wasn’t an HVAC technician at all. When it comes to air conditioners and furnaces, you’d be surprised at how many simple things you can fix on your own.
