We made the mistake of purchasing our new home sight unseen, well, we saw pictures online but we never saw it in person.
We were relocating from our hometown to take jobs with an exciting new company. There would be no time to househunt once we were there because the new jobs started right away and the hours would be intense. At any rate, we packed up and took the drive to our new home. When we arrived we were very unpleasantly surprised by the fact that the house was far from the pictures that we had seen. Our online realtor was no help either as they had gone by the same information that we had. We decided that the pictures must have been taken at least ten years prior. The overall bones of the house were good but it needed a complete makeover. We started out by finding a qualified decorator that could handle the cosmetic side of things. We had to report for work just two days after we arrived so we had to trust that they would do a great job. They found and issue with the plumbing and HVAC system within the first couple of days. Our new dream home turned out to be a money pit for sure. The new HVAC system set us back a month’s pay but that will be well worth the investment. We will have the peace of mind that, at the very least, we would be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It took about a month but the house really started to come together and even though it cost a lot we have really come to love it.
