Chores growing up – air filters

As a kid, I don’t remember weekends being that big of a deal.

I think a lot of other families had fun activities that they did together, but in my household we didn’t really interact much.

Weekends were just two days without school. I had to entertain myself and be as quiet as a mouse while I did it. It wasn’t the most fun or entertainment, that’s for sure. Another thing that weekend’s signaled was the necessity of completing our weekly chores. As soon as Saturday morning came around, my mom was on our cases about our responsibilities. One of my least favorite chores was dusting. I hated the activity, because it seems like it was never ending. I felt as if the services were dusty again before I even finished cleaning the room. Whenever I thought I was done, my mom would come in and start yelling about the terrible quality of my work. She would accuse me of barely trying. In truth, I was cleaning up the dust as fast as I could. I could never understand how there was such a perpetual flow of indoor dust and debris. When I got older, I started to understand indoor air quality and contamination better, and I realized the answer. What I really needed to do as a child, was to clean out the air vents and air ducts on a regular basis. That is the source of my dusting nightmare. If I had been instructed to scrub the out the filthy air ducts or wash down the air vents, I would have been preventing the buildup of such nasty debris. Now that I’m an adult, I never neglect my indoor air ducts and I never have to dust.
