Finding my niche in the HVAC business

Just because you have a job doesn’t mean you have a career.

A lot of younger people don’t understand that, I know I didn’t when I was young.

It has only been the last few years that I felt like I was spinning my wheels, so to speak, and not really going anywhere in life. I have a job, a good job at that, but just punching a clock and cashing a check was not fulfilling to me. Part of it is the money, and how I would like to be making a lot more of it, but most of it is a matter of direction — which way do I go? I am a certified HVAC technician, but have been thinking about going into business for myself. A friend of mine opened up his own legal cannabis dispensary and asked me to install a custom HVAC system for it. Even though his weed is legal, he wasn’t comfortable bringing in some random HVAC specialist for it. Not only did I do a good job, but I learned about the many special HVAC requirements that cannabis dispensaries need. This gave me the idea to start my own small business that does nothing but HVAC work for these specialized businesses. The design and maintenance of a humidor is very tricky, and requires excellent ventilation and air pressure. Cannabis dispensaries have the same need for ventilation and pressurized rooms, on a much larger scale. My only question is if there is enough HVAC work to keep me afloat in such a specialized market.
