Your HVAC problem may be more simple than you think

As an HVAC technician I occasionally get called out to home when it’s entirely unnecessary.

  • Actually, it happens quite often.

Now, I don’t necessarily mean that I don’t have a job to do when I get there. What I mean is, sometimes I get a service call for something that could have been easily avoided or entirely taken care of by the homeowner. Let me give you the most common example. A host of problems will develop with your HVAC unit if you do not regularly change out the air filters. This is huge, and I’ve seen a wide variety of problems develop simply because the filters have not been changed for a very long time. Clogged air filters will result in very poor airflow, and eventually some extensive strain will be put on the system. This is entirely unnecessary and very easily avoided. Are you ready for the answer to the problem? Change out your air filters monthly. At the very least, change out your air filters every 60 days. This will prevent a host of problems! Another thing you might want to check for whenever you’re having problems with your HVAC unit is whether or not the thermostat is to blame and not the system itself. You may be tempted to think that there is something seriously wrong with your HVAC system when it will not turn on the heating or the air no matter what you set on the thermostat. However, it may very well be a faulty thermostat that needs replacing, or even simpler, batteries within the thermostat that need replacing!
