Questions of HVAC history

As a certified HVAC worker, I enter a ton of homes & assist a lot of people with their HVAC needs. To be honest, I really care about being inside someone’s home, because I’m nosy. I care about looking at the layout & seeing how they decorate. I also find it comforting to think that not everyone has it all together. It makes me think better about our empty dishes in the sink or the dirty laundry piling up in the hall bathroom. Most homeowners are a joy to work with, despite the fact that they’re stressing over the HVAC system. I take pride in remaining calm & find the cheapest & most reliable solution to their HVAC problem. However, a single thing I cannot stand is when a homeowner lies to me. As soon as I show up to a house, I typically ask the homeowner a list of questions about their HVAC history, because it helps me diagnose the issue with more accuracy. Most people have nothing to hide & are upfront with me. However, there are some people who are too prideful about their homes & insist on lying to me. To be honest, I’m not sure why they suppose I care? For example, I visited a home yesterday & the homeowner was experiencing awful air quality. I asked his when he had his ducts cleaned last, & he told me numerous months ago. When I examined the air ducts, they were covered in cobwebs & an inch of dust was lying around each wall. I don’t think why he thought I wouldn’t think any better? When I told his that his ducts were atrocious & causing the awful air quality, he stuck his nose up & refused to believe me.
