Thomas was complaining about his faulty air conditioner

Thomas is my colleague that I have known for a decade. We first met during the interview stages of the jobs we now hold. As young people looking to start our careers, we were so naive, and had much to learn. Now, we have more experience, and there is so much that has changed. For example, I am now married and have two daughters. Thomas, on the other hand, is the eternal bachelor who is mostly focused on his career. But, I know he is a bit lonely and has been thinking about giving dating another chance. About 2 years ago, he had a girlfriend, but she broke his heart and it has taken Thomas some time to recover. At that time, he became close with my spouse when I invited him for dinners with my family. Now, he is part of the family, and is always at my house each Friday. Last week, Thomas was complaining about his faulty air conditioner. Apparently, the cooling unit had failed the previous evening, and he hadn’t had it fixed. Work was crazy, so we didn’t have lots of time to be at home to wait for an HVAC worker to come by. So, I understood why Thomas felt frustrated because of the air conditioner. I told him he was better off hiring an HVAC worker for emergency repair and paying extra. They’d send them to his house no matter the time, as long as he knew emergency repair costs weren’t the same as those for normal working hours. Thomas agreed and said he didn’t mind paying extra as long as someone went to fix the faulty air conditioner.
