More representation is needed in the HVAC industry

My sister is a teacher in a career technical high school.

These schools are great because they provide a curriculum that gets the students prepared for the workforce.

The students can choose a major that interests them and take classes specific to those majors. These schools are also great for college preparedness. I went to a similar high school, where I had a major for two years of my high school career. I loved the school because it allowed the students to explore different career paths. My sister teaches the business courses and recently brought it to my attention that she had mostly girls in her classes and the boys took more technical classes. This dynamic is also a reflection of the job market today. The technical industry is dominated by men and some industries like the HVAC industry have very little women working in them. Representation is important for the technical job sector, but those jobs don’t interest a lot of women. Of course, these industries have taken notice and have devised ways to become more inclusive. So, the HVAC industry has been trying to recruit more women. In fact, they have been offering incentives to attract more women into the industry. Currently, the industry is experiencing growth and there are only 2% of women in the job sector. As a result, the HVAC companies are making the HVAC technician jobs more attractive for women. Not only would hiring more women help with filling jobs, but it will also help with diversity in the industry. My sister is also working with some of the girls in her school to encourage them to take more technical classes. Hopefully, in the near future, women can fill some of these gaps.
