Whenever I was growing up, I used to always like talking to the repairmen who would come over to the house to work on appliances for us. I just always thought that they were very interesting people. My dad was a guy who had to put on a shirt and tie everyday and go into a big office building. Even though he was really smart about certain things, my dad did not really know how to fix anything around the house, and so it was interesting to me to be around some blue collar service workers who actually knew how to work with their hands and how to use tools. I like watching them repair things like the refrigerator, the furnace, and the air conditioning system. From time to time, they would even talk to me and tell me what they were doing. From all of those conversations over the years, I picked up a lot of interesting knowledge and now I actually work as an HVAC technician myself. Of course, my dad wanted me to go to college so that I could take over his business for him some day but I just wasn’t ever really all that interested in it. I always found that service work of any kind was much more interesting to me and I really love working with my hands and with the public. I went to school to get my HVAC certification right after high school, and I’ve been working at a local HVAC company for about five years now. I think it all goes back to when I was growing up and how I used to talk to the HVAC technicians who would come to my house!
