My Mom thinks he knows everyone; then whenever someone mentions a name, he tries to figure out where he heard it before! Most times he comes with a reason for recognizing the name, but it has nothing to do with who all of us are talking about… Then last week, I was telling him about the HVAC supplier that had been to our dormitory at university… I told him how cute he was, and that I had gotten his company card. When he heard the name, he was sure he knew the man. I told him he wasn’t much older than I was, and it couldn’t possibly be anyone he knew. For the rest of the weekend, while I was home, he kept mulling over where he had heard the name before. He opened up over brunch, and told myself and others his father was the owner of the HVAC supplier in the neighborhood where I was going to university. I didn’t really guess anything about who owned the HVAC dealer! The university maintenance team called the HVAC supplier and asked for an HVAC supplier to work on the dorm’s gas furnace. I was in the cut room studying when he arrived. I had a good date with the HVAC supplier when I got home from the long weekend, and I really hoped Mom didn’t guess his father. That would be a new and embarrassing way to meet a boy’s parents. I told Mom I was sure he was wrong, but he had already gotten on the phone. He had gone to university with the HVAC dealer’s Mom, and they were about to renew their friendship, but nothing could actually be more embarrassing than that.
