The mini split gave her more living space.

My mother insisted she was going to buy a new tiny house and park it in our backyard.

I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to have a tiny house in my backyard, but how was I going to tell my mother no? My husband told me it was just a fad, and she would soon be tired of living alone.

She had been living in our basement for two years, but she didn’t think she had the privacy she needed. She told me she could hear every noise that we made upstairs. She could hear the kids sneaking out at night, and often caught them as they came out of the back door. I told her that as long as the tiny house was not right up against our home, she could park it out there. I guessed she didn’t like my answer, because she ended up parking it in my brother’s backyard. She promised him she would pay for the added electric bill since she had opted for a mini split HVAC system for her new home. She told me the mini split HVAC system would give her more living space because the HVAC units would be at the top of the wall and not on the floors. I never thought my mother would want to move out of my house, but she did. She bought a tiny house that was actually quite roomy and very nice. I may not see her every day, because last week, she moved her boyfriend in with her. Now, she only comes over to see the grandkids when we invite her.
