Our furnace broke on Christmas day.

My partner and I were hoping for a better Christmas than the one we had last year.

We woke up in the morning to freezing cold temperatures both inside and outside.

The furnace quit working in the middle of the night. My partner got out of bed, and slid on an icy floor. I had scrubbed the floors before going to bed, and I left some water sitting. That small puddle ended up turning that part of the kitchen into a skating rink. He fell and ended up in the hospital with a concussion while I waited for the HVAC technician to arrive and repair the furnace. By the time the HVAC technician left, I was heading to the hospital to pick up my partner. John wasn’t sure what had happened, because the accident happened so quickly, and I had to explain. This year, we are hoping the furnace works perfectly and we don’t end up spending most of our Christmas day in the hospital. To make sure this doesn’t happen, my partner called the HVAC company and asked them to do another inspection on the furnace. We wanted to have a promise that our Christmas would be uneventful, at least as far as the heating situation. When the HVAC technician told us we made a smart choice calling him, we looked at each other. He said we may want to consider a new furnace now, because he didn’t think this one was going to last beyond the new year. John started to laugh and told me I was bad luck. Ever since we moved in together, something had gone wrong over the holidays.
