Odd things found during ductwork cleanings

I’ve been working with my dad recently at the air conditioner and heating supplier he’s been working for.

I couldn’t believe my dad loved being an air conditioner professional as much as I do now that I’ve seen him do the work on a common basis.

It’s absolutely not all glitz and glamor to work as a professional though, last month we had a job to disinfect the HVAC ducts of a pretty old home. I don’t think the owners have been living there for quite some time, so this was just routine repair that was already part of their maintenance plan they had set up with the last professional that ran tests on it. I knew the HVAC ducts were going to be gross because there was a wicked smell that came from the air vent right when we walked into the house, and the HVAC ducts were filled with dead rats and mice, and lots of dead cockroaches as well, both of us requested that they call an exterminator or some kind of pest control service to make sure those creatures stay away and out of the HVAC ducts. I hope they took my advice because that was easily the worst house I’ve seen since working with my dad. I think moments like that make him feel embarrassed about what he does, even though I don’t think one instance like that should give an entire opinion about the position itself. I’m truly proud of him and glad to continue working with him. I’m even thinking that this could be a job path for me as well.
