My friend’s dad wants him to take over the family heating and cooling company

I feel bad for my friend Roger because his family has been trying to make decisions for him since he was too young to know what was happening around him.

Even when it came time to play sports in middle school, he wasn’t allowed to pick soccer because his dad wanted him to be a football player like him and his grandfather as well.

Despite being an accomplished running back, he loathed the game and was happy when he failed to get an athletic scholarship for college. It didn’t’ really matter if he wanted to go to college one way or another, as his parents already wanted him to take over the family business whenever they were too old to run it anymore. I felt bad for my friend Roger because his folks were plotting his destiny behind his back. It’s not that they don’t run a great company, because they do—it’s one of the highest rated HVAC in the state. Unfortunately, Roger isn’t interested in running a heating and cooling company. He has worked with his dad before on air conditioners and furnaces and it’s not his favorite kind of work at the end of the day. He wanted to be an electrical engineer and intended to go to college, but his parents blocked him at the last minute. Now he’s working a desk job at his parents’ HVAC company and he’s at least content for now. On the contrary, his younger brother loves working with air conditioners and is eager to take over the business instead. I think that a person who is passionate about heating and cooling is a better pick to helm the ship of the company after decades of statewide success.
