My father told me about this old house that was going up for auction for nonpayment of taxes. I knew of the house because I went to school with the girl that lived there. It was right next to the old junkyard. The only thing in the junkyard were old HVAC parts. I knew it was a lot of trash and I had always liked the house. I asked my father to go to the courthouse with me so I could look into what I had to do to buy the house. They told me that I needed a new HVAC system in the house, and a new roof. I had to pay court fees, the amount of taxes due, and an unpaid bill for paving the driveway, and the house was mine. Everything cost less than $5000 and I was the owner of a house. The house was so pretty, but I knew I needed a roof. I couldn’t believe they took such great care of the inside, but not the roof. While the roof was being replaced, we called the HVAC company. When they came out to measure for the furnace and air conditioning unit, I told them I wanted an air purification system. I also called the city about the property with the HVAC parts. That’s when they informed me that it was part of the property I had just bought. I may have been able to build an HVAC system out of the parts that were in my backyard if I had known what I was doing. I called the HVAC company to see if someone could give me an estimate of what it would be worth as parts or as salvage. I just wanted my property cleared.
