My great grandfather was in his nineties when he died.
Although I had been to his home quite often, I never thought about his air conditioning.
A part of me thought that old people were always cold and didn’t need air conditioning. Then I remembered how they always told you to check on the elderly when there was a heat emergency going on. My great grandfather was always happy go-lucky and I didn’t think the heat or cold bothered him. He told me that he had already taken care of everything, and I didn’t need to worry. When my great grandfather died, I helped my mom to clean his house. Not only did he have a new furnace in the house, but he had also had his air conditioning updated recently. Along with the new HVAC system, great grandfather had a whole home air purification system installed. It’s no wonder he told my mom that he wasn’t worried about the pandemic. Although he didn’t stray far from his house during the worst of it, I realized a lot of his not worrying was because of the air purification system he had installed in his HVAC system. While cleaning, my mom found his will. He said that everyone in our family had their own home. If I was over twenty-one when he passed, I got the house. If I wasn’t twenty-one, my mother was to put it in both our names and hers was to be removed when I came of age. I couldn’t believe he had left his house and everything in it to me. I broke out in tears knowing I would rather he was here for me to visit than be living here without him.
