HVAC is pivotal but there is a middle ground as well

There is no doubt that I’m very, very thankful to have our heat pump and all the wonderful HVAC cooling it delivers for nearly 8 months of the year.

In this part of the country, heat and humidity are part of the package.

So residential HVAC and good HVAC technology are vital to managing the heat. And that couldn’t be more true than during the summer months. From roughly mid May to October, the heat is on. And in a big way. Without the air conditioning it would be nearly impossible to live here for me. And the HVAC cooling is also balancing the humidity levels so we don’t have to battle mold & mildew day in and day out through the summer. Still, HVAC cooling that is just poured on all the time is neither sustainable nor cost effective. I found this out the hard way when I first moved here. That first year felt like the hottest year of my life and I wondered if I had made a terrible decision by moving here. Thankfully, I have a wonderful neighbor who is a native of this region. She showed me the ropes when it comes to using HVAC cooling judiciously. The key is to not jump right into the air conditioning during the spring as the temperatures rise. Holding off on air conditioning really allowed me to get more accustomed to the heat of this region. So by the time June rolled around, I was much more acclimated to the heat. I didn’t have to use as much HVAC cooling and being more accustomed to the heat made doing stuff outside so much more feasible.
