I hope that I can have my grandfather’s determination

Towards the end of his life, he transitioned back towards a company that focused on commercial and residential landscaping and fencing.

I’m particularly proud of my grandpa’s legacy in the landscaping and development industry. He started out as a mere architectural student at the University of MI before he started his own landscaping supplier at the age of 24. He grew his company from a small operation that he ran with my grandmother to an immense supplier with dozens of different employees all with their own responsibilities. At first they were mostly doing landscaping design and upgrades for homes and businesses near the university. Soon he was developing big roads and designing parks within the city. By the time he passed away, he was remembered as a single of the most integral developers in that area through the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Being a landscape designer at heart, he selected trees, sod, flowers, and other foliage that has since rooted and grown for the past four decades straight. I have a lot of pride when I visit that neighborhood because I know how much of it was brought to realization by my grandpa and his development empire. Towards the end of his life, he transitioned back towards a company that focused on commercial and residential landscaping and fencing. By the time he reached retirement age, it was too stressful handling big building projects commissioned by the city, county, or state. Although I have no interest in following in his footsteps with landscape design and neighborhood development, I try to adopt his determination and sense of will with my own pursuits in life. I might start a company some day in the future, but right now I’m pleased being a visual artist and making whatever little money that I can.
