The credit card company got hacked

My wife and I received a letter in the mail this week from our credit card company.

  • The credit card company got hacked a couple of weeks ago and our information was accessed at the time.

The firewall and the security measures did not stop the data breach. The credit card company assured us that we were safe, but they told us to contact the credit agencies to make sure the hacker did not use our info to make purchases. My wife and I wondered how the hacker made it past the firewall protection and database security. The credit card company has cloud protection services and an extensive firewall to keep these issues from occurring. My wife and I thought the network was secure, but the hacker easily accessed our information. We found out that they used my social security number to purchase a new car. My wife and I had a very hard time getting the loan off of our permanent record. The place with the car loan made us jump through hoops to prove that we did not actually make the purchase. They required a letter from the credit card company and a notarized letter from the car dealership. They compared the two signatures and saw that they were vastly different. After all of that, they decided to take the $38,000 loan off of our credit report. It was a huge ordeal and one problem that I hope we don’t ever have to face again.
