The funniest thing I’ve ever heard

Benjamin Franklin was known for several things, not the least of which was his several wise sayings.

“Nothing in this life is certain except death and taxes,” is one such saying.

“Guests, like fish, begin to smell in three days” is another famous saying. I can entirely attest to both of these sayings! My partner and I have sweet friends who come to stay with us every year, travelling from another country. We have found that all of us adore their company for about the first three afternoons. However anything longer and all of us begin to hope they would just return home. If they come during the Winter season weeks, all of us find that they prefer to keep their guest room and bathroom windows open all the time. And if it’s during the warmer weeks, they do exactly the same. Either way, it makes our heating and cooling bills super expensive during their visit. We have nicely asked that they keep the windows shut, explaining that the gas furnace never stops in the Winter season and the cooling system never shuts off in the Summer. But they just smile politely as if they want to comply. By the next day, it’s more of the same. Our Heating, Ventilation and A/C repairman, during 1 of his yearly repair appointments, confirmed that windows should constantly be sealed tight once the Heating, Ventilation and A/C plan is on. Not only does it mess with the heating and the cooling of the home; it also adds stress on the entire Heating, Ventilation and A/C system. Soon, the added stress could lead to a problem with the gas furnace or the cooling system. Unfortunately, all of us guess that we shouldn’t keep bringing the subject up with our out of city travelers. We have chosen stress on our Heating, Ventilation and A/C plan above stress on our friendship.
