My husband and I have been fortunate to live in our own home for the last 16 years. Both of us had a strong desire to live where the seasons were distinct and beautiful. We got just that in our place. The winter season has been much milder in the past 5 or 6 years than it was when we first moved here. I came from a part of the South where the temperatures are either mild or downright hot. My husband came from the opposite climate where the HVAC furnace ran for six months of the year at least. It is fascinating for each of us to then live where the seasons are split up so equitably. As soon as you begin to tire from one season, the next one is on top of you. The home we live in is older. We bought it when it was going into its fiftieth year. The place is structurally so sound that it will stand long after we are dead even if we did nothing to maintain it. However, there are other which do need to be addressed. Namely, the HVAC system is just in desperate need of a modern upgrade. There is sort of a central air system that was put in decades ago. While it works, it is super expensive to operate and is horribly antiquated. The meager amount of ductwork is actually completely falling apart. So, we made the decision to rip out all of the ducts and the old central air HVAC unit out. In its place, we installed a series of ductless heating and cooling units.
