It’s nice to know people that have specialized skills.
I have a friend from college who became a doctor a few years ago.
He doesn’t see me officially, but if I ever have a medical question I can call him whenever he’s not at work. I mean it’s just really nice knowing somebody who is a medical professional and can quickly address a concern that you might have with your body on a random day. For instance, it cost me at least $50 as a copay just to see my regular physician for a random appointment. I tell my friend all the time I don’t know what I would do without having him in my life, because of all the medical questions I inevitably get with the conditions I have. These are the types of friends that you need to hold on to for as long as possible. But it’s also really nice to date somebody who has a lot of specialized knowledge as well. My wife for instance is very well trained in the trades. She started out as an apprentice carpenter for her uncle and quickly became an electrician as well. But the industry that she ended up liking the most is the heating and cooling industry. She’s currently a residential HVAC technician for a large heating and cooling supplier here in the city. She has so many specialized skills when it comes to air conditioners and furnaces that I never have to worry about us having issues with her HVAC systems as a result. She just knows so much that it’s such a huge relief and a weight off my chest.
