Older models aren’t worth it

As someone who works in the HVAC profession, it is not like I am unaware of how expensive heating and cooling can get.

This causes a lot of people to try and save as much as they can on their HVAC systems, but oftentimes, it ends up costing them more money in the long run. There are two examples I can think of that come to mind. One is the air filters. A lot of people, in an attempt to save money, will buy really cheap generic A/C filters that are often made of plastic or some other bad material. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a lot of these people would also change their air conditioning filters out every 6 months or some other crazy length of time like that. Then when their air conditioner starts having problems, they usually need to call a HVAC worker out such as myself, to fix the problem. The other problem that I see all of the time is people desperately clinging on to their old A/C or heating unit models. Some of these machines will be over 20 years old, and yet these people would still refuse to get a newer A/C model, and expect me to come out every month to repair their old and broken units. No one wants to pay a ton of money upfront, but these people need to stop thinking of it in that way, and realize that it is actually saving them way more money in the long run. The older models are not very efficient at all, and it is actually costing them more money to keep them running than it would be if they just had a new HVAC installation.
