I bought a new step ladder to reach the filter tray in my air conditioner

Even though my family members think I’m cheap, I like to invest in things that improve my life or make everyday tasks easier in some conceivable way.

I eat a lot of canned foods and decided to try a new kind of can opener when I was shopping for one at the grocery store. This other design is called a “safety can opener” and they cut the lid off from the side of the can and don’t leave a sharp edge. It might seem trivial to some people, but this new can opener has made the simple process of opening an aluminum can so much easier and more comfortable on my hands. If I had young children in the house I would worry a lot less about them cutting their hands on the lids of aluminum cans like I would if we had a normal can opener to use. Although I had an existing step ladder, I recently upgraded to a stronger one. I rely on my step ladder to reach the filter tray access panel on my HVAC air handler which hangs from the ceiling in my garage. The old step ladder wasn’t rated for anyone above 200 pounds and I’m already 215 after gaining weight during the pandemic. Since I’m trying to get into the habit of replacing my heating and cooling filters more frequently, I’m on the step ladder more often and I’m naturally afraid of it breaking. To keep myself motivated to replace the HVAC filters at a quicker pace, I invested in a new step ladder that I knew would handle my weight. Now I can effectively change my air conditioner or furnace filters more often without fearing the failure of my step ladder.
