Do you consider future maintenance when choosing your heating equipment?

Regular heat pump service was not something I was anticipating when I bought the ductless HVAC from the local HVAC supplier.

I was head over heels for the ductless heat pump that I overlooked anything that looked like a con. It was the type of quality heating that I had been dreaming about. Now five years later, the heating professional from the homeowner solutions was telling me that I needed another type of heating equipment, preferably one that uses fuel. I was taken back at first because before my current system, I had an electric furnace but it was old and always in need of repairs and I was asking myself why I needed to go back. I had noticed some shortcomings with the system I currently had but only when the temperature dipped below zero but it was otherwise a very good decision. When the heating contractor noticed my distaste, he clarified saying that he meant a dual fuel system. Which would utilize the capabilities of my current system combined with, for instance, a gas boiler. This hybrid system would ensure that I have indoor comfort throughout the year even when it was really cold. The minute he said this, I was sold because during winter it was a bit of a struggle trying to keep the house warm enough. The fireplace helped a great deal but that was only in the living area, the bedrooms were a whole different matter altogether. This time around when the heating technician started talking about contacting the heating business for furnace/heater tune-up for the hybrid system I was very keen. Even with that to factor in, the upgrade seemed like a worthy investment.
