Jogging can be really bad for your joints

My dad always did “roadwork” as he called it.

Long periods of jogging, several days a week, on the local roads.

When he came home his feet ached, his knees and hips were weak, but overall he felt good. My dad never had a weight problem, but thanks to years of roadwork he did a lot of damage to his body. I am glad I always resisted his attempts to get me to go jogging with him! He did impart his love of personal fitness to me, though, I just go about it in a different way, a way that is safer for my body. It may seem foolish to drive to a gym just to use a treadmill, instead of just going for a walk. But if I have learned anything from my dad, it’s to take care of my joints, and the treadmills at the gym are very low impact. I can walk for a lot longer at the gym, and cause no damage to my ankles or knees. Also, after a good workout I can go sit in the sauna for a while to help purge the toxins from my body. The gym has a wet sauna and a dry sauna, but I am all about the wet sauna. The extreme humidity in there feels like it gets into my lungs and cleans them out too, so the wet sauna is my favorite part of the gym. I may not be a physical specimen, but my health and wellness are in good shape and hopefully I won’t follow in my dad’s footsteps.
