Power outages and being prepared

When the power goes out it is the worst thing ever, and i do not like losing heating, cooling, water and lighting, but for years I would live in fear of the power going out and just being stuck.

I have slowly made it so it isn’t so bad… Rather than get big, bulky generators that would kneel in my basement for months at a time unused, I got something better. I invested in a pool that has a furnace so I can use it year around, and not only do I enjoy swimming, I prefer having a backup water source, but even if the power goes out, I can shower, wash dishes and cook. I have tons of candles spread throughout the home and firestarters, however anytime my lights go off, I just light all the candles and my home is lit. For heating and cooling, I have battery operated possibilities that I keep in the attic! They are not undoubtedly big, but can do a single room if need be. I figure most of the time the power goes off during the night. I could grab a few battery operated oil heating systems and set them up around my home office. It is not as great as having a central heater, but in a pinch will be doable. The battery operated A/C units aren’t nearly as great but less likely to be used. I have thought about getting a smaller oil powered or gas powered heater. The complication is that most of those systems need an electric start. I need something strong that requires no power and I will be all set for outages.
