Ripping out the air duct

When I moved into our first house, I did not realize the work that came with it.

  • I thought the home just needed a little replaces here and there.

What it really needed was to be gutted and totally redone. That is why I got it for such a low price. Overtime I have done the work necessary to get our home functional. I had to get all the plumbing ripped out and substituted with copper. I had to get the electric rewired. I also needed to remove the air ducts from the home. This required our walls and ceiling all to be ripped down. Then the HVAC supplier ripped out the 8 inch metal air duct. Afterwards, I had to drywall and paint over the new walls. The reason that ductork had to go is that it was damaged beyond repair. I guess creatures got into the new home and chewed aggressively into the air duct. The HVAC contractor could not perform deep enough duct sealing to fix it. I wanted ductless HVAC anyway. This allows for zone control and is better for the air quality. After the removal of the air duct and new walls, I had to get the new HVAC set up. I then set up temperature controls in each room for zone control. After everything was all finished, the home temperature control was perfect. I enjoy having ductless HVAC and zone control. But, the road to getting it was a rough, time consuming and luxurious a single. At certain points in the journey I thought about giving up and just doing portable HVAC.
