I was hired five days after I walked across the stage, I left really lucky because that isn’t’ the case for everyone.
I work for a very large architectural firm. We are a full size firm that has architects, engineers and interior designers. I am the administrative assistant, but it is really cool to see all these practices come together and work on such large scale projects. It is also really nice that we don’t have to contract out any work because we have all aspects of the construction project working under one roof, especially the engineering work. Two months ago we were award a project that was to build a brand new hospital. It was to have 68 beds, a full emergency department and a medical office building. The hospital we are building for already has the job site picked out and there is currently already a hospital sitting on there. It has been abandoned for two years, they are hoping to use the current hospital as the bones for the new one. The first order of business was for the HVAC engineers to go out and inspect the current layout and condition of the ductwork. We needed to make sure that the HVAC system wasn’t outdated before we started to do any new construction. Luckily, it looked like the ductwork was in great shape and the HVAC engineers had a good foundation to start with. HVAC engineers are one of the most important aspects of the construction process, especially for my firm!
