As I was growing up my parents were very frugal.
They did not like to spend a lot of money on silly things, instead they invested their money and saved for their retirement.
I am glad they were like this, it helped teach me the value of money and in turn I don’t like to spend my money on things I don’t need. I rarely go shopping for clothes and I really don’t make expensive purchases unless they are really needed. It is nice to not have to worry about money now, I save most of what I make and the rest just go to rent and bills. I don’t have a lot of bills either, so I feel really lucky. I remember when I was younger I would watch my friends parents spend money on the craziest things. They would buy nice cars and jewelry, but my parents always told me those things weren’t important. Once day I was going over to play at a friends house and when I arrived there was an HVAC truck outside the house. I thought maybe they were having problems with their air conditioner, but instead I learned they were having radiant flooring installed. I had never heard of radiant flooring and was intrigued. So my friends mom explained that radiant flooring was a way to heat the floors with pipes running underneath the floorboards. That is why the HVAC truck was at their house. They were having the piping for the radiant floors installed. I really wish my parents would get radiant flooring installed in our house, but I know they never will!
