Install your smart thermostat. Worst idea

I am one of those people who are always bragging about how financially smart we are.

I saw an article on how much more I could save in energy bills if I added a smart thermostat to my HVAC unit, and I decided to get one.

I did not bother consulting an HVAC professional since everything I thought needed could be found on the internet. A simple search later, I placed an order on Amazon for the most recommended HVAC regulator for anyone seeking to self-install. I got it delivered within a week and followed a YouTube video on installing it. I was proud and happy with my work thinking I finally had controlled help with indoor comfort. The quality HVAC regulator I thought I’d successfully installed died in two weeks. I only remember smelling something burning, and it didn’t hit me that it was something in the HVAC installation until I noticed the regulator was not working. I had to bite my pride and call the HVAC provider for help. I still hoped that the HVAC repairman could resurrect the regulator, but that was impossible. He told me that the first mistake I made was buying something without considering compatibility with my system, but I was lucky the damage was not extensive, so I wouldn’t need to purchase new HVAC equipment. The HVAC business expert guided me on the most suitable regulator from a variety of new HVAC technology options they had. Another thing that has turned me off from self-installing is that I paid more than I would for HVAC maintenance which I would have avoided if I had hired help. Now I’ve joined the few people who will tell everyone to hire a heating and cooling provider, even for HVAC brands that say you can self-install.
