When we started having troubles with the gas furnace last week, I panicked! I knew I could not afford a new gas furnace, however I was sure a new gas furnace was in the future… The gas furnace was over twenty years old.
The people I was with and I had no troubles in these years, and now it was happening.
There was a lot of dust coming from the air vents, and there was an weird scraping sound coming from the gas furnace. I called the Heating and A/C supplier, however I was afraid of what would happen when he got there. It was various nights before the Heating and A/C professional arrived, and when he did, I was worrying. The entire time he was in the basement, I was chewing on my fingernails. I wanted to know what he was finding wrong with the gas furnace, however I didn’t want to know; Ever since I made the cellphone call to the Heating and A/C supplier, I had been online looking at gas furnaces. I shuddered when I saw the price of them. Every time I heard a noise, I thought it was the Heating and A/C professional coming upstairs to tell me the worst of the news… Finally, the Heating and A/C professional came upstairs and told us what was going on, however he said the gas furnace wasn’t nearly as bad as we thought it was, but our greatest problem was that we had never had our ductwork cleaned. There was so much dust in the ductwork that it was getting into the gas furnace and causing the grinding noises. Had we waited much longer, it could have caused some real damage, however all we needed was to have the ductwork cleaned, and then he would come back and finish cleaning the gas furnace.
