My wife and I had been asking our daughter what she wanted for Christmas, even since Thanksgiving.
She was only four and we were sure she had something special she would like to have, but she wouldn’t answer.
She told me that Santa knew exactly what she wanted, and if he was real, she would get it. I asked her what she told Santa and she gave me one of those looks that told me this wasn’t going to work. I happened to be outside her bedroom when I overheard her talking to her dolls. She told them that she would make sure they didn’t get cold this year. She had told Santa she needed a new furnace for their dollhouse, and she was sure he was going to buy it for her. I heard her mutter something, and she laughed. She told Susie that of course she told him it had to be a purple furnace because she knew that was Susie’s favorite color. I now knew what we could get her for Christmas. My wife and I spent nearly a week looking for dollhouse sized furnaces. We found pot belly stoves, fireplaces, and even some space heaters, but no furnaces. We opted to buy a pot belly stove, a fireplace, and a space heater, but none of them were purple. My wife bought a small bottle of purple nail polish and painted the space heater. I’m sure that with the note Santa leaves her, she’ll be happy with the purple space heater, and the two new dolls to keep Susie company.
