My dad has been working in the air conditioner and heating industry for my entire life.
I’m not sure exactly when it began, but he suddenly grew a deep interest and appreciation for technicians after one of them came to his house when he was a kid and helped him before a quick repair.
I guess the technician really became a role model for him because he continued to shadow him on repairs and installations once he reached an age to go out on his own. Now my dad owns his own air conditioning and heating business, and we are just reaching our busiest time of year. Winter is a big season for us since we live in a warm climate, so the heating industry is always booming in the Winter over here. I’ve been helping him on a few installations already, and I’m clearing my calendar because I know the demand will get even higher over the next few weeks. I like working with my dad though. He takes a lot of pride in his work and carefully walks me through the steps of something I don’t know how to do. I’ve always valued my time spent with him because it always feels like he is paying attention to me and not just passively being around me. I see a lot of parents not really bond with their kids, so I’m lucky that mine have put such a pure effort into maintaining relationships with me. I know I should be telling my parents more often how much I love them.
